Virgin Comics – Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation were the creative collaboration of writer Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and maverick Sir Richard Branson.  Based in Bangalore, India, the company housed 50 artists and writers in a creative studio and focused on two areas of development:

  1.  The creation of original stories and character properties that tap into the vast library of mythology and re-invent the rich indigenous narratives of Asia in a unique, compelling and entertaining way.
  2. Collaborating with creative talent from around the world – from filmmakers, to writers, to musicians, and other artists – to craft original stories and character properties initially in the form of comics and graphic novels subsequently to be developed into films, television, animation, gaming, wireless content, online, merchandise and more.

With an eye on the rapidly evolving entertainment market, Virgin Comics strove to create properties infused with a mythic sensibility that resonate with readers and audiences around the world.  On September 24, 2008 Liquid Comics completed the management buyout of Virgin Comics led by the founding management team of Gotham Chopra, Sharad Devarajan and Suresh Seetharaman.  The StoryBus is an early literacy program for pre-k and kindergarten students in low-income neighborhoods throughout Chicago. The StoryBus itself is a 37-foot traveling children’s museum on wheels. Like a traditional children’s museum, it’s full of hands-on exhibits that help children develop their early literacy skills through play and exploration; unlike a traditional children’s museum, the StoryBus an bring that rich experience to children who wouldn’t otherwise get to experience it.

Before the bus shows up at a school, the teachers will implement a related curriculum with their students, and read to them multiple versions of the semester’s focus story. The StoryBus DVD is meant to supplement those book readings by offering a storytelling of the semester’s story; and it also includes a tutorial that
will help make the teacher a better storyteller.
